China Gold Imports Hit 26-Month High in May, Surging 76% YTD

China imported 163 tonnes of gold in May, the highest monthly figure in 26 months since March 2024. Strong buying continued in the world’s top gold market even as prices traded 25% below early 2026 peaks. Cumulative imports through May reached 692 tonnes, up 76% from the same period last year.
