CME’s 24/7 Silver Futures Debut with $15 Million Traded in First Weekend

Amid economic uncertainty, investors increasingly seek safe-haven assets that trade around the clock. CME Group announced a solid debut for its 24/7 silver futures, with 2,387 contracts on 100 ounces changing hands over the first weekend, representing more than $15 million in notional value.
Demand also stayed strong for the one-ounce gold futures launched July 24. Weekend sessions over the past six weeks saw 140,000 contracts traded for over $600 million. Jin Hennig, CME’s Global Head of Metals, highlighted that silver’s dual investment and industrial role makes continuous access essential.
To attract retail traders and compete with digital platforms, CME rolled out smaller contracts—one-ounce gold in January 2025 and 100-ounce silver in February. These steps delivered results: metals volume hit a record 1.3 million contracts daily in the first half of 2026, up 55% year-on-year, with $50 billion average daily notional in silver futures.
