The Dutch central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), has transferred 86 tonnes of its gold reserves from the United States and Canada to London amid rising economic and geopolitical uncertainties. This move involves part of its total 313 tonnes holdings to enhance liquidity and quick accessibility during crises.

DNB aims to bolster its preparedness by ensuring gold can serve effectively as an anchor of trust against systemic risks. Governor Olaf Sleijpen noted that the relocation improves tradability, adding, “With this relocation, we have improved the tradability of our gold reserves. We expect that we will never need to use them, but we do need to strengthen our resilience and preparedness.”

Prior to the transfer, allocations were roughly 31% at home, 18% in London, 31% in New York, and 20% in Ottawa. Post-move, London holds 32%, while New York and Ottawa each have 18.5%. The bank achieved this by selling 59 tonnes in New York and buying equivalent in London, alongside physical shipments of 27 tonnes via the Netherlands.
