Gold and Silver Advance as Dollar Stays Firm Ahead of Jobs Data

7/2/2026 · Kitco News

Spot gold and silver prices climbed after the North American session close on Wednesday. Gold traded near 4036.90 dollars per ounce, gaining 0.75 percent, while silver reached about 59.070 dollars, up 1.03 percent. Both metals held above key supports despite pressure from a firmer dollar and higher Treasury yields ahead of the June jobs report.

Economists expect nonfarm payrolls to add 110,000 positions versus 172,000 in May, after private payrolls rose only 98,000. A strong print could bolster the dollar and Fed-rate bets, whereas softer data might extend the metals rebound. The Strait of Hormuz shows faster-than-expected oil-flow recovery, yet volumes remain near 7 million barrels daily against a prewar 20 million.

Nymex WTI crude settled around 68.58 dollars per barrel and Brent near 71.57. The dollar index firmed to 101.42 and the 10-year Treasury yield hovered near 4.5 percent. Technically, gold eyes a break above the 4044–4100 resistance zone, while silver targets a move past 60.41–61.54.
