Gold and Silver Hold Gains Following Soft Jobs Report

7/4/2026 · Kitco News

Spot gold and silver prices rose sharply on Friday after a softer-than-expected U.S. jobs report. Gold traded near $4,174.10 per ounce, up 1.27%, while silver reached about $62.27, gaining 2.36%. The metals were supported by dollar weakness in thin holiday-weekend trading.

The employment data reduced the odds of near-term Fed rate hikes, though 10-year Treasury yields held near 4.5%. Oil prices stayed steady, with WTI at $68.73 and Brent at $72.02 per barrel, reflecting normalized flows through the Strait of Hormuz amid lingering uncertainties.

Technically, gold faces resistance at $4,200 and $4,350, with support at $4,091. Silver targets $64 and $64.50 on the upside, while downside risks lie below $60.05.
