Gold and Silver Hold Steady as Equities Decline and Hormuz Risks Bolster Oil Prices

7/21/2026 · Kitco News

Spot gold trades near 4007.10 dollars per ounce, down 0.25 percent, while silver sits near 56.27 dollars, up 0.80 percent. Session ranges left the metals above Friday lows yet below key resistance levels. North American and European equity indexes closed lower amid rising bond yields and oil-price pressure.

Fed policy expectations remain less dovish than earlier data implied, with markets still pricing a September hike risk. The two-year Treasury yield settled above 4.22 percent and the ten-year above 4.60 percent, firming the dollar. Hormuz transit stress and Red Sea blockade threats sustain oil volatility, with Brent near 86.90 dollars.

Technically bears hold the near-term edge for both metals, with bulls targeting 4040.90 for gold and 57.60 for silver next. A break below 3982.20 in gold or 55.40 in silver would pressure supports further.
