Gold and Silver Selloff May Offer Opportunity, but Investors Should Await Confirmation, Says MarketGauge’s Schneider

6/16/2026 · Kitco News

Gold and silver initially advanced this week amid optimism over a potential Middle East peace deal easing inflation concerns. Yet the retreat from session highs underscores market volatility. Michele Schneider of MarketGauge sees the correction as a long-term buying opportunity but advises waiting for technical confirmation before re-entering.

She noted Thursday’s drop may mark a key reversal, though follow-through buying or a strong close above prior highs with solid volume is still required. Silver appears more resilient by holding its 50-week moving average, unlike gold which broke several key levels. Silver’s outperformance could point to inflationary signals and renewed demand from industry and technologies like AI and solar.

Schneider suggests holding off on aggressive purchases until after the Federal Reserve meeting. Her longer-term bullish view remains intact due to geopolitics, government debt, persistent inflation and central bank buying, including China’s largest gold purchases since late 2024. Investors should seek confirmation rather than attempt to bottom-pick.
