Gold and Silver Weaken as Fed Repricing Overshadows Safe-Haven Flows

6/30/2026 · Kitco News

Spot gold and silver prices fell after the North American session close on Monday. Gold hovered near 4015.60 dollars an ounce, down 1.79 percent, while silver stood around 58.180 dollars, off 1.48 percent. Rising oil prices and firmer Treasury yields redirected focus toward Federal Reserve tightening risks instead of safe-haven buying linked to US-Iran tensions.

US equities rebounded, with the Nasdaq Composite rising 2.1 percent and the Dow finishing above 52,000 at a record. Precious metals, however, traded more as rate-sensitive assets than pure geopolitical hedges. The FOMC held the target range at 3.50–3.75 percent, yet revised 2026 projections higher for both rates and PCE inflation, lifting the 10-year yield to 4.377 percent.

Transit through the Strait of Hormuz slowed without full closure, boosting oil where WTI settled at 70.75 dollars per barrel, up 2.2 percent, and Brent reached 73.15 dollars, up 1.6 percent. This reinforced inflation concerns rather than gold demand. Gold faces resistance at 4100–4170.85 dollars with support near 3959.08 dollars; silver shows comparable levels.
