Gold Climbs as Buyers Test $4,160 Level Amid Oil-Driven Yield Rise

7/23/2026 · Kitco News

Gold and silver prices rose Wednesday on technical buying and safe-haven demand despite higher crude and Treasury yields. Spot gold hit $4,136.60 per ounce, up 1.47%, while silver reached $59.72, gaining 1.80%. Gold traded between $4,075.90 and $4,167.00, testing resistance at $4,140–$4,200.

U.S. equities closed mixed, with the S&P 500 up 0.1% at 7,498.96 and the Nasdaq down 0.6%. European indices advanced, the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 4.66%, and the dollar index held near 101.

Brent crude settled at $94.07 and WTI at $86.83 amid Strait of Hormuz tensions. The moves supported defensive gold buying but capped gains via higher real yields. Traders now watch Friday’s PMI data and next week’s Fed decision.
