6/28/2026 · Kitco News

Gold prices climbed to an intraday peak near $4,080 per ounce after fresh US consumer sentiment figures showed improvement. The University of Michigan’s final June reading came in at 49.5, beating the preliminary 48.9 and May’s 44.8. Surveys Director Joanne Hsu said sentiment rose about 10% from May as gasoline prices eased, with five-year business expectations surging 16%. However, the index remains 13% below the February 2026 level before the Iran conflict. One-year inflation expectations fell to 4.6% and long-run views dropped to 3.3%. Spot gold last traded at $4,074.13, up 1.17% on the day.
