Gold Holds Steady Amid Oil Slump and Equity Gains

8/4/2026 · Kitco News

Gold prices steadied near $4,056.60 an ounce, rising 0.37%, while silver climbed 0.87% to $57.940. A sharp drop in crude and softer Treasury yields offset reduced safe-haven buying linked to U.S.-Iran diplomatic moves. The Federal Reserve kept rates at 3.50-3.75%. PCE inflation printed at 3.7% year-over-year, and oil prices fell to $78.85 for WTI and $82.91 for Brent after President Trump paused strikes and pushed talks on the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. equities rallied, with the S&P 500 gaining 1.48% to 7,600.50. Capital.com analyst Daniela Hathorn called the diplomacy a step forward but warned of uncertainty ahead.
