In late trading gold held nearly flat near 4516.60 dollars an ounce, down 0.12 percent. Silver rose 1.60 percent to 67.96 dollars an ounce as higher bond yields weighed on equity markets. North American indices finished lower, with the S&P 500 declining 0.9 percent. Fresh data showed initial jobless claims at 206000 and the Philadelphia Fed index climbing to 47.4, while the 10-year Treasury yield moved back toward 4.69 percent. Silver cleared the 66.55 dollar breakout level and reached an intraday high of 69.11 dollars, while gold faced resistance near 4541.70 dollars. Rising oil prices, with WTI at 87.83 dollars per barrel and Brent near 93.78 dollars, bolstered safe-haven demand yet added to inflation concerns.
