Gold's Next Phase Goes Beyond the $5,000 Threshold - LBMA 2026

Gold has encountered difficulties since spring amid rising bond yields and persistent inflation that fuel expectations for tighter policy. Nonetheless, long-term optimism has stayed firm, as clearly shown at the LBMA annual conference held in Sorrento, Italy. Participants stressed that brief weakness does not erase the positive outlook ahead.
Delegates project gold reaching $5,000 within a year, yet talks went further than price forecasts. The metal is increasingly seen as protection in an environment of eroding trust in government finances due to heavy public debt, with central banks valuing its lack of counterparty risk.
Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel observed that gold now forms nearly a quarter of global central bank reserves. Tokenization technologies are also boosting its utility for trading and collateral, indicating the metal’s future hinges on wider global shifts rather than Fed decisions alone.
