Central banks continue buying gold despite price swings, according to the OMFIF 2026 report. The survey of 74 institutions managing over $10 trillion found 82% now hold physical gold, up from 71%, with a net 30% planning higher allocations over one to two years. Gold ranks as the top reserve asset.
OMFIF Head of Research Andrea Correa noted managers stay bullish, with 61% expecting prices between $5,000 and $6,000 by June 2027. Geopolitical risks, led by Middle East conflict at 85%, drive demand, cited by 51% as a key reason to hold bullion.
Nearly 80% foresee a shift to a multipolar monetary system and lower dollar exposure. Long-term preferences favor corporate bonds, gold and equities over government debt alone.
